What is a wildfire? A wildfire is a large, uncontrolled fire that spreads quickly across forests or grasslands. They usually start during hot, dry weather when a spark—from lightning or humans—ignites dry leaves and wood. Once it begins, wind and dry plants act like fuel, helping the flames travel across the land.
Stay indoors with windows closed to avoid breathing in smoke, and always follow the evacuation routes provided by local safety officials.
