Drought is on going in Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda
The Drought notification level is Orange.
Several countries in East and Central Africa are currently experiencing a long period with very little rainfall. This active drought is considered serious and is currently being monitored under an orange alert level.
What is a drought? A drought happens when an area receives much less rain or snow than usual over a long period. This often occurs when shifting weather patterns block moisture from reaching the ground. When the land stays dry for too long, soil loses its moisture, and water levels in rivers and lakes begin to drop.
To help your community, practice water conservation by taking shorter showers and checking for any leaky faucets around your home.
