Green flood alert in Cambodia

A flood occurred in Cambodia between late August and early September 2026. While the water caused 45 people to move to safer locations, everyone stayed safe and no lives were lost.

What is a flood? A flood happens when water covers land that is usually dry. This can occur after very heavy rain or when a river overflows its banks. In places like Cambodia, seasonal rains often cause water levels to rise, sometimes moving faster than the ground can soak the water up.

Never walk or drive through moving water, as even shallow floods can be surprisingly strong and hide dangerous objects beneath the surface.
