On 10/16/2026 3:35:32 AM, an earthquake occurred in Russia potentially affecting 10 thousand in MMI V. The earthquake had Magnitude 6.9M, Depth:143.176km.
A strong magnitude 6.9 earthquake occurred deep underground in Russia early on October 16. While it was a powerful shake, its great depth helped limit the impact on people living nearby.
What is a earthquake? Earthquakes happen when large pieces of Earth’s crust, called tectonic plates, suddenly slip past each other. This movement releases energy in waves that travel through the ground, making it shake. Most quakes occur along fault lines where plates meet and get stuck until the pressure becomes too great.
If you feel the ground shake, remember to Drop, Cover, and Hold On under a sturdy table until the movement stops.
